MAJ Aaron Wolfgang, MD is currently the chief of inpatient psychiatry at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He is an Assistant Professor at the Uniformed Services University and an Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Yale School of Medicine. He also serves as the Novel & Emerging Therapeutics Deputy Psychiatry Consultant to the Office of the Army Surgeon General, a role in which he advises DoD leadership on psychiatric novel and emerging therapeutics. He was the first individual in the DoD to be trained in MDMA-AT in 2019 and in psilocybin-assisted therapy in 2020 while in fellowship training at the Yale School of Medicine. While at Yale, his research training focused on psychedelic clinical trials. Dr. Wolfgang has since earned a reputation as the DoD’s subject matter expert on psychedelic-assisted therapies, now acting as a consultant on this topic to DARPA, several DoD entities, and other federal entities such as the FDA and VA. He has published on the clinical, legal, ethical, and implementation considerations for psychedelic-assisted therapies in the MHS and VA systems which has informed US federal policy.
