Dr. Tynes received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from LSU in Baton Rouge, LA, and completed a psychology internship and fellowship at McLean Hospital in Boston. He then earned his M.D. degree from LSU Medical School and completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, a program he helped establish. He later served as its Program Director for twelve years. Currently, Dr Tynes is a Professor and Vice Chair of Psychiatry at Tulane and serves as the Psychiatric Caseload Consultant to twelve primary care practices that employ a Collaborative Care Model of mental health care delivery. He has published over 50 papers, abstracts, curricula, and book chapters dealing with an array of topics related to both internal medicine and psychiatry. He represents the Louisiana Psychiatric Medical Association in the national Assembly of the American Psychiatric Association, and also represents the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry in the American Medical Association House of Delegates. He is known regionally and nationally as an expert in the Collaborative Care model of primary care mental health service delivery. Dr. Tynes is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians, the American College of Psychiatrists, and the Academy of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry and has recently been named a Distinguished Life Fellow in the American Psychiatric Association.
