Andrea DeSimone, DO

Dr. Andrea DeSimone is a consultation-liaison psychiatrist and department chair at Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover, Delaware. Dr. DeSimone completed undergraduate education at Hamilton College with a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience. After graduating from Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine, she completed psychiatry residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where she was the academic chief resident and went on to fellowship training in consultation-liaison psychiatry at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

Upon completion of graduate medical education, Dr. DeSimone accepted a position in community consultation-liaison psychiatry at Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover, Delaware where she serves as department chair, collaborating with hospital leadership to develop mental health programming and integrate psychiatry, psychotherapy, and mental health services across the hospital system. As an academically trained psychiatrist, Dr. DeSimone is dedicated to educating the next generation of physicians, holding teaching faculty positions in the Bayhealth internal medicine and family medicine residency programs and is a clinical assistant professor at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

In addition to administrative and clinical duties, Dr. DeSimone serves as the chair of Bayhealth GME Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Subcommittee which fosters an inclusive environment amongst faculty, residents, and staff of the Bayhealth community. She holds leadership and committee positions in several state organizations including the Medical Society of Delaware, Psychiatric Society of Delaware, Delaware State Osteopathic Medical Society as well as nationally in the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. She was recently appointed to the Delaware Addiction Action Committee and co-chairs the patient-centered care subcommittee.
