Dr. Alba Lara is a board certified adult inpatient and consultation-liaison psychiatrist currently practicing in the rural U.S. border community of Yuma, Arizona, where she will participate in the launch of a new psychiatry residency program. Dr. Lara completed general psychiatry residency at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School where she served as chief resident and was awarded the American Psychiatric Association SAMHSA Minority Fellowship as well as the American Psychoanalytic Association Fellowship. She completed Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry fellowship and Transference Focused Psychotherapy certification at Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Lara gained post-fellowship experience serving in the health tech industry as an associate medical director of outpatient collaborative care management and remains interested in the pragmatic implementation of integrated models to optimize the health of medically complex populations. Dr. Lara is a dedicated educator whose academic interests include neuropsychiatry (epilepsy, pain, catatonia, and functional neurologic disorders), electroconvulsive therapy, asylee and immigrant mental health including forensic evaluations, transplant psychiatry, medical hypnosis, and applied psychodynamic psychotherapy in all clinical settings.
