Sharmeen Azher is a PGY-3 psychiatry resident at Albany Medical Center. She earned an MBA in Healthcare Management through Clarkson University and an MD at Albany Medical College. As a medical student, she became involved with a hospital wide committee related to the care of complex med-psych patients. She completed an intern year in Internal Medicine at UMass-Baystate Medical Center before realizing that her true passion was psychiatry. In addition to her outpatient PGY3 duties, she is creating a psychopharmacology curriculum as well as an advocacy curriculum for her co-residents. She is particularly interested in functional neurological disorders, reproductive psychiatry, the development of newer antipsychotic agents, and medical education. Her clinical interests within consultation-liaison psychiatry also include neuropsychiatry, integrated behavioral and primary care, and expanding access to mental healthcare.
