Melissa Greenfield, PsyD is an Assistant Professor at UAB School of Medicine in the Department of Neurology, Division of Epilepsy. Before graduate school, Dr. Greenfield adjudicated disability and worker’s compensation claims receiving medical and functional rehabilitation training. This led her to pursue studies in clinical psychology, where she focused on the mind-body connection in populations including, neurodevelopmental and neurological, with an emphasis on medical and health service psychology, and behavioral medicine interventions. Dr. Greenfield has worked across the UAB hospital system to provide integrated psychological services, with the focus on patients with high medical complexity, functional and somatic disorders, epilepsy and other neurological disorders, and genetic and neurodevelopmental disorders. Dr. Greenfield worked on the consultation-liaison Psychiatry service and now focuses her efforts on inpatient FND consults. She specializes in behavioral analysis offering contingency management to increase safety, compliance, and outcomes. She serves on the Critical Response Team and UAB Care serving complex patient population needs. Dr. Greenfield supervises and teaches graduate students, psychology interns, medical students, and residents. She is invested in supporting professionals from all backgrounds to integrate psychological theory into their roles for increased work-related satisfaction and outcomes. Dr. Greenfield’s research interests include phenotypic expression of psychiatric symptoms and performance validity in medical complex populations as well as diagnostic accuracy and intervention in functional and somatic disorders. Dr. Greenfield is passionate about the advocacy of mental health awareness, resources, and research and hopes to continue to support and grow this mission at the state and federal levels.
