Dr. Cenik graduated from Hacettepe University Medical School in Ankara, Turkey in 2005. He obtained his PhD in neuroscience from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center under the mentorship of Joachim Herz and Gang Yu in 2012. He completed his psychiatry residency and consultation-liaison psychiatry fellowship also at UT Southwestern. Between 2018-2023, he was an assistant professor of clinical psychiatry at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Since January 2024, he has been an assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He has been named a NARSAD Young Investigator, a PRITE Fellow, a National Neuroscience Curriculum Initiative Scholar and has been awarded Chairman’s Award for Excellence in Research and the Jeffry Andresen Award at UT Southwestern, a certificate of recognition as a mentor in the Siemens Competition, and a gold medal at the 10th International Biology Olympiad. His professional interests include treatment resistant depression, collaborative care, neurostimulation, and teaching neuroscience to psychiatry residents. He currently serves on the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training Neuroscience Committee. He has volunteered for the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance and the Health Professions Recruitment and Exposure Program in Dallas, TX.
