Dr. Valpey graduated from the University of Rochester Medical School and completed her residency training and consult-liaison psychiatry fellowship and community psychiatry fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center/Western Psychiatric Hospital (UPMC/WPH). She is currently the Medical Director at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center’s Center for Counseling and Cancer Support, the behavioral health clinic providing psycho-oncology services to patients with cancer and their loved ones. She also serves as the Director of Student Mental Health at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, providing care for medical students during their training. She additionally has served as faculty in the fields of eating disorders, substance use disorders and psychiatric sports medicine through UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital, with special interests in women's mental health, sexual health, and rural medicine. Finally, she has a passion for teaching medical students, residents and fellows, with specific focus in areas of wellness and burnout, and serves as Faculty Co-Chair of WPH Resident and Fellow Well-Being Initiative.
