Sara Carlini M.D. is a board-certified consultation-liaison psychiatrist at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. She is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate. In addition to her work on the consultation-liaison psychiatry service, as Director of Perinatal Psychiatry she has participated in expanding the Women’s Behavioral Health services available at Maimonides Medical Center, which currently includes consultation psychiatry services at OB-GYN clinics and comprehensive psychiatric care for peripartum patients in the Center for Perinatal Mental Health at Maimonides Adult Outpatient Services. She has expanded academic training in reproductive psychiatry for the Maimonides Psychiatry Residency Program, and her initiatives include the founding of a perinatal clinical track and expansion of relevant didactics across all training years.
Dr. Carlini graduated the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship at Zucker Hillside Hospital/Northwell Health as a participant in the Women’s Mental Health Track. She completed Psychiatry residency at the Zucker Hillside Hospital/Northwell Health Psychiatry Residency Training Program; there, she was engaged in the Research Track and served as a chief resident in her fourth year. She attended medical school at the Penn State College of Medicine and graduated Wellesley College with a B.A. in Psychology and English literature.
Through her training, Dr. Carlini has developed clinical expertise in reproductive psychiatry and nurtured an interest in the development of collaborative and multidisciplinary care initiatives for women and birthing people. She has published in peer-reviewed journals, co-authored a book chapter, and presented her work at national professional conferences.
