Gia Merlo, MD is a clinical professor of psychiatry and nursing at New York University’s Rory Meyers College of Nursing and NYU Grossman School of Medicine, associate editor of the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine, founding chair of the Lifestyle Psychiatry Caucus of the American Psychiatric Association, and a fellow of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. She sees patients at the Psychiatry Faculty Group Practice at NYU Langone Health in New York, NY.
She has published numerous peer-reviewed articles, multiple book chapters, and four academic books for healthcare professionals with Oxford University Press and Taylor & Francis. Her recently released book Lifestyle Psychiatry: Through the Lens of Behavioral Medicine (Taylor & Francis, Dec 2023) expands Lifestyle Medicine to psychiatric practice and guides non-psychiatrists on lifestyle mental health. She is a contributing author of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) curriculum Lifestyle Medicine 101 and of the board review course, Foundations to Lifestyle Medicine. Merlo's current book projects include Medical Professionalism: Theory, Education, and Practice (Oxford University Press, expected summer 2024), and her general audience book, Restack: From Mental Blocks to Our Full Human Potential (May, 2024).
