Marra G. Ackerman, MD is the Director of Ambulatory Consultation-Liaison (CL) Psychiatry Service at NYU Langone Manhattan and has been a member of the NYU faculty since 2015. Dr. Ackerman completed her undergraduate studies at Emory University in 2005, where she majored in Biological Anthropology. In 2010, Dr. Ackerman obtained her MD from the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. In 2014, she completed residency in general adult psychiatry at the New York State Psychiatric Institute/Columbia University Medical Center (NYSPI/CUMC), where she was Chief Resident. In June 2015, Dr. Ackerman completed fellowships in CL Psychiatry and Women's Mental Health at NYSPI/CUMC. Dr. Ackerman joined the NYUSOM Department of Psychiatry Faculty Group Practice (FGP) in 2015 where she continues to oversee the Women’s Mental Health Program and has held leadership roles as Director of the Psychiatry Faculty Group Practice (FGP), Director of the Medical Student and House staff Mental Health Program, and Director of CL Psychiatry. She assumed the role of Director of the CL Psychiatry service at NYU Langone’s Manhattan campus in September 2020 and led the inpatient consult team for three years and through the height of the Covid19 pandemic. In July 2023, she transitioned to her current role as Director of Ambulatory CL Psychiatry where she oversees clinical efforts in Women’s Mental Health, psycho-oncology, and transplant psychiatry. She has published several academic papers on her work in Women’s Mental Health including research on the mental health impact of familial breast cancer and telemental health services in perinatal populations.
