Assistant Professor

My name is Abhishek Reddy, M.D. I have completed my Residency in Psychiatry, Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, subsequently in Sleep Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. There are very few clinicians in the US with a background in Psychiatry and Sleep Medicine. The interaction between Sleep and Mental health which was apparent during my training fascinated me. As an Assistant Professor and junior faculty at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, I take care of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry patients in inpatient and outpatient setting. I also see patients with sleep disorders like insomnia, hypersomnia and parasomnias. I am closely involved with training Psychiatry Residents and Fellows, help them with Research and Scholarly Projects and have started a Sleep Curriculum for them. I have presented posters on topics with sleep and mental health involving Original Research and Literature review in National and International Conferences. Currently, I am the Principal Investigator heading a research project on the relationship between insomnia, depression and suicidal ideation in adolescents on the inpatient unit. During my career, I hope to raise awareness among clinicians regarding the role of sleep on mental health.
