Dr. Cathy Kondas grew up in New Jersey before she pursued a career as a professional ballet dancer with the American Repertory Ballet Company where she toured nationally, internationally, and appeared on various television programs including PBS. After retiring, Dr. Kondas' career at Bellevue started when she was an undergraduate at Columbia University, volunteering for several years on the inpatient Dual Diagnosis unit. She later received a master's degree in Biomedical Science and an MD from Rutgers University. She went on to complete her psychiatry and fellowship training in Women's Mental Health at New York University Grossman School of Medicine, where she is currently an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Kondas joined the Consultation Liaison service at Bellevue as an Associate Director in 2014, became the Division Director in 2020, and in 2023 was promoted to Associate Chief of Psychiatry.
Between 2016-2023, Dr. Kondas served as the Director of the Women's Mental Health Fellowship at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and has actively participated in the growth of the Women's Mental Health Programs at Bellevue and the NYU training programs. Dr. Kondas enjoys working with trainees and has won multiple teaching awards including the prestigious NYU Grossman School of Medicine, Psychiatry Department’s Nomination for Master Faculty Mentor. Dr. Kondas has been involved in creating a curriculum at NYU related to Reproductive Psychiatry for medical school education and is interested in racial disparities in perinatal mental health, as well as the development of a trauma-informed CL service.
