Dr. Julian Raffoul is an internal medicine trained M.D./Ph.D. from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI who completed a fellowship in molecular therapeutics at the Karmanos Cancer Institute, Detroit, MI studying the effects of diet on cancer treatment. He also trained in general and addiction psychiatry at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN and is a rising C-L psychiatry fellow at Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA. Academic interests include understanding the effects of diet/nutrition on brain health, elucidating the concept of ‘food addiction’ and its relation to disordered eating/obesity, and characterizing the misuse of OTC substances labeled as 'dietary supplements' and how FDA-approved treatments such as buprenorphine may assist with clinical management. Other interests include understanding the management of chronic pain in patients with addiction and determining the safety and efficacy of ECT/TMS in critically ill patients.
