Dr. Rachel Caravella is the Director of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Service and physician lead of the Behavioral Emergency Response Team at Tisch-Kimmel. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude with a double major in Biological Basis of Behavior and Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her MD cum laude from Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Caravella went on to complete her Adult Psychiatry Residency training at Columbia University Medical Center / NYS Psychiatric Institute, where she also served as Chief Resident during her PGY4 year. She completed her CL Psychiatry Fellowship and Women's Mental Health Fellowship concurrently in the same year also at Columbia.
She is a passionate clinical educator and mentors and supervises trainees from all levels. Dr. Caravella’s clinical interests include the psychiatric care of medically ill patients, delirium, legal and ethical issues in C-L psychiatry, and women’s mental health. Her research interests include Tele-CL models, quality improvement, health equity, and advancements in medical education / teaching. She has presented workshops, case-conferences, oral papers, and posters on a variety of clinical and academic topics at multiple national meetings including APA, AAP, Academy of CL Psychiatry & AADPRT. Last year, she won Teacher-of-the-Year for the CL Psychiatry Fellowship.
