Dr. Patrick Ying joined the NYU Langone Health Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Service in 2019. He completed his Bachelor of Arts at Princeton University with a major in Chemistry. He earned his medical degree from the NYU School of Medicine where he also completed his residency and chief residency in Psychiatry. Subsequently, he joined the faculty of the Department of Psychiatry and over the past twenty two years, has held many positions in the department, including Director of the Electroconvulsive Therapy Service, Director of Outpatient Services, Site Director for the Residency Training Program, Acting Inpatient Unit Chief, and Director of Resident Outpatient Program at One Park Avenue, among others.
Dr. Ying is an enthusiastic educator, lecturing in psychopharmacology on the undergraduate and graduate medical education level, and has been honored multiple times by the residents for teaching and mentoring. As a member of the NYU School of Medicine’s Institute for Innovations in Medical Education, he is interested in the use of technology to assist education of trainees and faculty in the classroom and at the bedside, and has developed mobile apps to assist in the management of QTc prolongation and catatonia. In addition, he has been involved in quality improvement measures examining health disparities on the consultation liaison service, especially during behavioral emergencies. His clinical interests lie in electroconvulsive therapy and psychopharmacology in complex medically ill patients.
