Alexander Weiss is a third-year medical student at The Ohio State University College of Medicine with plans to pursue further training in child and adolescent psychiatry. He has a background in mental healthcare, working as a mental health assistant at Nationwide Children’s Hospital before matriculating to medical school. As founder of the student organization Talking is Medicine, Alexander is passionate about organizing events meant to introduce his classmates to psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness concepts. A former president for his college’s psychiatry student interest group, Alexander organized events meant to destigmatize mental health issues, with special attention paid to the extra barriers minority classmates faced in this regard. More recently Alexander has been active in quality improvement work with Ohio State Harding Hospital geared towards improving measures of patient comprehension and satisfaction with respect to safety planning.
