Medical Student
Dell Medical School
I am a third-year M.D. Candidate at Dell Medical School and a M.A. in Design focused on Health Candidate at the University of Texas at Austin. I additionally have a self-taught background in graphic design as well as a B.A. in Chemistry from Rice University. Following graduation, I will pursue a residency in Psychiatry and subsequently enter into clinical practice with a focus on perinatal and reproductive mental health. My research interests, which lie at the intersection between health and design, include perinatal and women’s health, intentional spatial design, built environment, health policy, and safety-net care. A sample of my research involvements include a) understanding the landscape of longitudinal and preventative care services in Austin to better coordinate care at Dell Medical School’s student-run free clinic, b) illustrating the impact of Medicaid Unwinding on pediatric patients with increased medical complexity, c) exploring the social barriers to accessing fertility care and d) designing human-centered avenues to promote social engagement of older adults and enhance intergenerational connections in Austin. I am an advocate for the “human element” in my research, design, and scholarship; this entails co-creating and learning alongside communities, centering their stories and experiences, and embracing and acknowledging the impact our work (research, policies, patient care, designs) will ultimately have on individuals.
