Ajit Deshpande, M.D., is a third-year psychiatry resident at the University of Connecticut. He earned his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati after completing his undergraduate education at the University of Louisville, where he majored in bioengineering with a minor in psychology.
While at the University of Connecticut, Dr. Deshpande has pursued his interest in advocacy and equity within academic psychiatry, being selected as a scholar in the first cohort of the interdisciplinary Diversity Equity, and Inclusion Leadership Track. He additionally serves on the Hospital Ethics Committee at John Dempsey Hospital. He is also active in his work promoting a supportive and holistic culture through his appointment on the resident council.
His academic interests are focused around increasing access to mental healthcare through integrated systems models, as well as the impact of isolation and loneliness in older adult populations. He additionally has explored how bias and lack of access affects psychiatric care in marginalized populations.
