Abdallah Tom is a third year psychiatry resident at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell. He is a ‘third culture kid:’ Sudanese, born and raised the UAE. From an early age he has been fascinated by the brain and mind, humanity, culture and society. He went on to pursue a medical degree at Weill Cornell Medicine Qatar, and embark on a lifelong career in psychiatry, aspiring to integrate mental health, healthcare policy, and culture. He earned his medical degree with multiple awards including Excellence in Psychiatry, Leadership in medicine Award, Humanism in Medicine Award, Global and Public Health Award of Merit, among others. He is a health equity advocate, having previously worked on a national and international level, to improve access to mental healthcare in underserved communities. Abdallah have held a variety national and international leadership positions including president of the Medical Students’ Executive Council (MSEC) at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, President of the Qatar Medical Students’ Association, and Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Region at the International Federation of Medical Students’ Association’s. Abdallah is passionate about the intersection of medicine, psychiatry, and culturally sensitive global healthcare. At the intersection of his interests, Abdallah has dedicated his himself to work on improving access to healthcare services in underserved communities as highlighted by prior experiences.
