Dr. Liu obtained her medical degree at Beijing Medical University and practiced OB/GYN specializing in high-risk pregnancy. During her practice of OB/GYN, she became very interested in mental health services. When she moved to the US, she applied to psychiatry as her new medical field and completed her psychiatry residency training at Boston Medical Center of Boston University in 2002. For several years following, she worked as an assistant professor at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital on the psychotic disorders unit at Westchester Behavioral Health Center (WBHC).
From October 2016 to August 2020, Dr. Liu took the role of Asian Psychiatry Director and worked as an attending psychiatrist in the Asian Program at Gracie Square Hospital. She treated patients with a variety of serious mental illnesses, and she delivered excellent clinical care to many Asian patients and their families.
In Sept 2020, Dr. Liu returned to WBHC to work at the Second Chance Program, where she functions as the Unit Chief. She continues to provide comprehensive treatment to patients who suffer from refractory schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. She skillfully adjusts medications to minimize psychosis and mood problems and also uses the biopsychosocial model to help patients gain the capacity to live in the community successfully.
