Dr. Carroll is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He has broad clinical and research experience in the fields of opioid pharmacology and pain. Dr. Carroll began his career as an addictions specialist. His interest in complex patients and health care delivery systems led him to the Sickle Cell Center for Adults at Johns Hopkins, whose patients are his primary clinical focus. Dr. Carroll’s research interests center on understanding the complex high-utilizing subpopulation of SCD patients and the clinical and mechanistic connections among chronic pain, opioid use, and acute pain treatment outcomes in SCD.
