Dr. Rado is board certified in both internal medicine and psychiatry. He has been working at the interface of medicine and psychiatry for more than twenty years. This includes practice in primary care, psychiatric and integrated care settings. He designed and implemented the first collaborative care program in the largest primary care practice at Northwestern. Based on the success of this pilot, he helped lead a system-wide expansion of this program into all of the Northwestern primary care practices. This work involved gaining support of hospital leadership and educating primary care providers and staff on all aspects of this model. Additionally, he has consulted with outside institutions including Chicago area Federally Qualified Healthcare Centers (FQHCs), on the implementation of collaborative care in a broad array of practice settings.
Since 2018, as the Northwestern collaborative care physician leader, he has worked with implementation scientists on a type 2 hybrid effectiveness randomized roll-out trial evaluating depression screening and program implementation in all of the Northwestern Chicago area primary care internal medicine practices. This study has examined factors affecting acceptability, appropriateness and feasibility of collaborative care implementation in a real-world setting.
