Jorge Luis Sotelo, M.D. is currently the medical director of psychiatry at Memorial Regional Hospital and associate program director of the Memorial Healthcare System psychiatry residency. He is a highly experienced clinician in the treatment of patients with medical and psychiatric comorbidities, mood and anxiety disorders, as well as patients with schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. After graduating from the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital psychiatry residency program in June of 2003, he completed a medical psychiatry fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA and a neuropsychiatry fellowship at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He worked as associate psychiatrist at McLean Hospital and at Massachusetts General Hospital specializing in the inpatient treatment of patients with psychosis, mood, and anxiety disorders and was awarded the Ed Messner Faculty Award by the junior residents of the MGH/McLean Psychiatry Residency Training Program in June of 2007.
He was assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Miami School of Medicine from October 2007 until December of 2016 and held leadership positions in medical student education (psychiatry clinical clerkship director) and in fellowship training (psychosomatic medicine fellowship program director). He worked closely with the department of transplant surgery at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and conducted pre-transplant evaluations from 2007 until 2016. He joined Memorial Regional Hospital in January of 2017 and oversees the care of adult patients receiving psychiatric treatment at the hospital, in the inpatient psychiatry units, the consultation-liaison psychiatry service, and the outpatient setting.
