Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Fellow
University of New Mexico
I am an early-career investigator pursuing a combined fellowship in Consult Liaison Psychiatry and basic science research at UNM. After completing an undergraduate thesis in microbiology, I joined the Douek Laboratory at the NIH as a research fellow and spent two years studying HIV pathogenesis and viral reservoirs. After completing my fellowship at the NIH, I joined the Nadler/Guinan Laboratory at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute where I helped develop a cellular adjuvant therapy for renal transplant and investigated a novel radiation mitigation agent.
After a hiatus in medical school to focus on clinical training, I rejoined the research community in residency. I completed the Scientific Research Track at UNM, pursuing additional coursework in scientific writing and research practices. I also sought out a mentor in the neurosciences division, joining the Mellios Lab to learn more about the biology of circular RNA (circRNA) and their dynamics in mental illness.
As a fellow, I have become more involved with ACLP. I am a member of several interest groups (neuropsychiatry, research, and proactive CL), participated in the Developing Scholars Research Colloquium last year, and recently published a case conference on dispositional capacity in the Journal of the ACLP. I am currently work on projects related to altered circRNA levels in bipolar depression and delirium.
